The Jagannath Temple at Puri in Orissa State of India is a famous Hindu temple & is dedicated to Lord Jagannath which is another form of mythological Lord Vishnu. It's a 12th century shrine. This temple is a pilgrimage spot for all the Hindus. The temple is also famous for its Rath Yatra i.e. Chariot festival, in which huge and beautifully decorated chariots are used for the procession of various deities.

Earlier there have been complaints against the Priests over there for their unruly behavior in and outside the shrine. But as per one Times of India report, the latest incident was the most embarrassing one for the priestly clan when Police arrested Jagannath Khuntia, a 38-year-old priest, after catching him red-handed trying to snatch a gold necklace and earrings from a devotee inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Earlier police in the last six months, had received around 15 complaints of snatching and pick pocketing inside one of the country's most revered shrines.

Train safety in India - Weird Video

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Here is a horrific video about Train safety in India. Just see how people are running on the Railway Track just few seconds before the train came. It was their sheer luck only that they survived. Have Indian Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav seen it? If not, he should see it to judge how safety norms are just being violated & that too at a Railway Station. Weird, indeed weird video.

Village makes HIV test 'must' before marriage

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Earlier few Indian state governments had thought off to make the pre-marital HIV test mandatory, but a remote village in Bagalkot district in Karnataka state of India has already made it compulsory for every boy and girl to undergo an HIV test before marriage.

Here is the PM Budni village in Karnataka, where 4,000-odd residents have implemented it to tackle the deadly virus. The remote village, 80 km from Bagalkot, has lost 15 people, including four children, to AIDS during the last five years. As per one panchayat member ( Local council member), Srikanth Kolur, 'Our girls were married off to men from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Goa, who had contracted the virus. The girls would come back as widows afflicted with HIV. Similarly, girls from other villages were spreading the virus to our boys. So we decided to make the test mandatory. The panchayat has already passed a resolution." Read more............Village shows way to tackle AIDS

Lalu the Exorcist

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Have you ever known a state minister to act as an exorcist. May be nowhere in the world it may happen but certainly it happens only in India. In India, last week, Indian Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was shown on television channels, invoking a goddess at his ancestral Fulwaria village in Gopalgunj district in Bihar State of India, to act as an exorcist when he exorcised a ghost from a woman.

Now the ruling JD(U) in Bihar has demanded the arrest of Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, as according to law, the act of exorcism is punishable with provision of three months imprisonment or fine or both. As per JD(U) spokesman Shivanand Tiwari, 'Lalu Prasad was seen in the role of an exorcist on the occasion of invocation of the goddess at his native village a few days ago and he exorcised a ghost from a woman. His act violates the Bihar Witchcraft Prevention Act enacted by the erstwhile RJD government in 1999'.

Now it seems Ghost Politics is catching up in Bihar State of India & certainly this time Ghost is not going to let off Lalu Prasad Yadav easily.

Incidentally this is the same Lalu Prasad Yadav, from whom, recently students from 'Harvard' and 'Wharton' Business Schools took management tips, on how he has been able to turnaround Indian Railways to a profitable venture after being declared sick earlier, before he took over Indian Railways few years back.

Anyway, if anyone from 'Harvard' and 'Wharton' Business Schools, wants lessons in such weird practice of exorcism, Lalu seems to have good knowledge on this too!!!!!!!!!!!!

India Rocks

Here is a Great video about India. The background song is from the movie 'Swadesh' & sung by 'AR Rehman', the musical genius of India.

India is an amazing country & it's diversity offers everything you would like to have. In the north there are majestic Himalayan ranges & on three sides is surrounded by spectacular coastline of three seas. In India, there are beautiful landscapes, magnificent historical sites and royal cities, golden beaches, misty mountain retreats, colorful people, rich cultures and festivities.

At any part of the year India can offer you a dazzling array of destinations and experiences. In summer, when the subcontinent is sizzling, there are spectacular retreats amidst the heady beauty of the Himalayas or the lush heights of the Western Ghats with cool trekking trails, tall peaks to conqueror stretches of white water for the adventure seekers.

In the cool of an Indian winter, cities come alive with cultural feasts of music and dance. The balmy weather is an ideal time for you to go century hopping in romantic cities studded with medieval forts and palaces. The sun drenched beaches are inviting and wildlife sanctuaries with their abundance of flora and fauna are a buzz with the nurture of the young.

You can taste the delights of the Indian monsoon anywhere in the country- on a camel safari in the Rajasthan desert when nature comes alive and the peacocks dance; along the west coast where the relentless slanting rain paints the countryside in brilliant greens or even trekking amidst the stark grandeur of mountain valleys lying in the rain shadow of the Himalayas.

Experience exotic India live like a maharaja in the rich ambiance of royal forts and palaces that are now heritage hotels; luxuriate in the serene beauty of a coral island with its turquoise lagoon; participate in the exuberance of a village fair or a colorful festival; day dream on a house boat drifting down the palm - fringed backwaters; delight in the grace of a dancer or shop till you drop - buying exquisite silks, carved figurines, brass and silver ware, marble inlaid with semi-precious stones, finely crafted jewelry, miniature paintings, carpets at unbelievable prices.

India, always warm and inviting, is a place of infinite variety - one that favors you with a different facet of its fascination every time you come on a visit.

Erumeli, Symbol of Secularism in India

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Erumeli is a place in South India where a temple and a mosque form an integral part of one's pilgrimage. It is situated 40 km away from the holy Hindu shrine of Sabarimala. No pilgrimage to Sabarimala is considered complete without a visit to this mosque devoted to Vavar, a Muslim friend of Lord Ayyappa. This year too, the doors of the mosque were open to all.

Taking the place of Hindu & Muslim God, in Erumeli is Lord Ayyapa and Vaver who according to mythology had been the best of friends. The Hindu God is said to have visited Vaver enroute to Sabarimala. Their friendship was so thick that Vaver, a staunch Muslim king is now known as Vaver Swamy and for all those going to sabarimala, a stop at the mosque is a must.

So Ayyapa devotees queue up at the mosque every day once the season starts and get vibhuthi from there – especially the `kanni ayyapans' or the first-timers for whom this is significant.

And the Muslims in Erumali are more than happy to receive their Hindu counterparts with open arms – something they have been doing for years now.

'Vaver and Ayappa met here and became friends. Today we celebrate that rare bonding here and all these customs you see here had been going on for so many years so much so that this mosque is now an integral part of Sabarimala pilgrimage and we Muslims are more than happy to have Hindus in our mosque,' said Erumeli Vaver Mosque President Abdul Sallam.

Devotees also perform the Pettah Thullal, a customary dance which celebrates the killing of a demon by Lord Ayappa with the help of his friend Vaver.

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Here is one weird video of Insane Traffic in one of the city in India. It seems there are no traffic rules & everybody is in a hurry to pass the crossing in someway or the other. It's amazing that though everyone is going as per his/her own will, still no accidents happen. Is it the skill of drivers that they are able to avoid accidents? Incredible, It happens only in India. Do you see such chaotic traffic conditions anywhere other than India.
