Monkey Wedding

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
A few days ago there was a story of a man who had Married a dog, then it was Children getting married to puppies & now here is marriage of two monkeys. It seems all weird sort of marriages happen only in India.

Thousands of villagers in east India attended an unusual wedding last week between two monkeys, local media said.

The two-year-old bride, known as Jhumuri, dressed in a five-meter long sari, tied the knot with her groom three-year-old Manu at a temple ceremony in full Hindu tradition complete with wedding presents, the main gift being the couple's freedom from captivity.

The monkey marriage which was held in Ghanteswara village in Orissa state was performed by a priest who said it was a "unique experience," and the first time he had conducted a ceremony between monkeys.

The newly weds had been living locally prior to the ceremony. Jhumuri was found by her owner at a temple in the village. Her owner, Mamina, pledged that her pet would marry two years later in the same place she had found her.

"I feel as if my own daughter is getting married," Mamina said.

The three-year-old groom was raised in a nearby village by a couple who found him in an orchard. His owners said that the marriage was a unique chance to set the animals free.

Marriages between humans and other creatures are fairly frequent in Indian villages, and are usually intended to ward off spells and curses.

As per "Mumbai Mirror"

"Shoaib who harbours Bollywood aspirations and recently expressed a wish to live in the starry suburb, was a dinner guest at Salman’s house on Friday night. Warmed by sprit and camaraderie, the two men started ribbing each other about their respective physiques. As things got heated, Salman who is known to cycle to Karjat, challenged Shoaib to a race to see who was the fitter of the two.

The two men then slipped out and quietly walked to the head of the promenade where in a Sallu-esque gesture Shoaib took off his shirt and flung it on the ground to use as a starting block. Salman followed suit, and, as our source says, “before you could blink, the two men were off.” Past the sleepy autowallahs, past the genteel homes of various other stars and past the bungalow of Shoaib’s new employer Shah Rukh Khan, till Taj land’s end and then back to Salman’s house at Galaxy apartments, all in a matter of 15 minutes. "Neither of them raised any sweat because they both are very strong and muscular, and have very strong legs," says our source who did not wish to be identified."

Nonsense Club auctions Players like Cattle

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
India’s great 'Satirist Jaspal Bhatti had earlier floated the 'Nonsense Club' & his band of faithful friends have been successfully selling 'nonsense' for the last 25 years. Welcome to the mad world of the 'Nonsense Club' founded and run by satirist-actor-director-engineer Jaspal Bhatti who hails from Chandigarh.

Now recently Jaspal Bhatti and his Nonsense Club organised a sports “mandi” (marketplace) here in Chandigarh city to sell players like cattle. The sports mandi at the city’s main commercial hub in Sector 17 mocked the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) auction of cricket players.

Bhatti put players from sports like hockey, football, athletics and even kabaddi up for sale.

“The minimum bid for a hockey player will start at Rs.50, football player for Rs.30 and kabaddi player for Rs.20,” Bhatti announced to mock the millions of rupees splurged by corporates on cricket players.

Members of the Nonsense club even sang parodies of old Hindi film songs to highlight the state of commercial cricket.

“Now players should only be playing for the money they get and not for the pride of the nation or for remaining healthy. We want to auction players like cows and buffaloes,” Bhatti said.

He demanded that all sports, which were not contributing to the brand value of industrial goods, should be immediately banned in the country.

He said that gambling and auctioning should be introduced as subjects from primary classes so that children can learn early about such things. He said that auction halls should be set up in all districts and cities to sell players everywhere.

“Any player from any sport who is unable to sell himself should be barred from all international events. Also players should perform depending on what they have been paid,” he said.

Healing through a host of skills, including hypnosis, tarot reading, astrology and witchcraft are being accepted by a majority of people in Chandigarh, the twin capital of Punjab and Haryana.

"Claiming to be India's first Shaman Witch, Renu helps remove all negative energy surrounding a person through prayer and meditation. She claims that she receives the energy from Gods and Goddesses as also from the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

"Although this may not seem like a straight fight against superstition because what I am doing is very logical like the use of colours, use of fire,se of crystals all of which has been validated by everybody in all fields. This is just a concentrated form of using them and invocations of a Wiccan or a person like me used has a very scientific oath -"Do what will not harm anyone". We cannot harm anyone. If we even think of doing so we lose our energies," said Renu."

As per sify.com "Three boys and two girls were married to puppies in the superstition that it would ward off evil at this remote tribal-dominated village in Jharkhand's Saraikela-Kharswan district today.

Salu Banra, the mother of one of the girls, 15-year-old Puspa, a student of class seven in a government school, said, "This is a custom. We set the puppy free after the marriage."

The upper tooth appearing in either a girl or a boy is considered inauspicious by the Ho tribe which lives in this village. "Marriage to puppies of the opposite gender gets rid of the evil," said some of the other villagers.

They said that six marriages between puppies and boys and girls had taken place."

"Prajapati, a real estate broker and resident of Grant Road, and four of his family members had confirmed reservations for the Lok Shakti Express train. They missed the train at Bandra terminus from where it left at 7.40 pm. The next thing Prajapati did was to call up the police emergency number ‘100’ and tell them that a bomb had been planted on the train. The control room immediately informed the railway police and the train was brought to an unscheduled halt at Andheri station. Passengers were evacuated from both the station and platform while a squad carried out a search for explosives. "

Indian villagers have been holding their own version of the Olympics, which includes an event where participants are run over by tractors. Popularly known as the rural Olympics, the games are held every year in Kila Raipur, 11 miles from Ludhiana city in the northern Indian state of Punjab.

The competition consists of 40 to 50 events and features a wide variety of rural games from tug-of-war to horse races and cock fighting.

But it is the unusual and dare devil stunts that are the biggest draw with the spectators - such as men being run over by tractors and a 100 metre sprint for the over 75s. See the event's video below.

When Fishes rained from the Sky

Fishes raining from the Sky!!!!!!!!!!!!! It may seem weird but if a report from sify.com is to be believed then it actually happened at Kandanassery village in Kerala state of India. As per the report:

"Residents of Kandanassery village near here were quite surprised when small fish started raining down towards the end of a sudden downpour on Monday night.

The phenomenon was first noticed by two persons when the little slimy things started pattering on their body while they were returning home late in the night.

As they thought that people would reject this as a mere fantasy or concocted tale unless there was a tangible proof, they picked up some of the bubbling fish and kept them in a water-filled bucket near the village library.

Sivaraman, who first sighted the rare phenomenon, said he also saw some fish crushed by vehicles that drove on the road when it was raining."

For sporting Moustache, Flight steward sacked

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Can you be fired from your job if you sport a heavy Moustache? Exactly that had happenned with Indian Airlines steward "Victor Joynath De" who was grounded for sporting a big moustache. Now he has approached the Supreme Court of india for seeking his reinstatement as cabin crew.

Victor was grounded by the Indian Airlines in 2002 for refusing to shave off his Moustache.

The Indian Airline's explanation at the time was that Victor ’s moustache violated the Indian Airline's Personal Conduct Code of 1998, which does not allow the display of moustaches which could be unhygienic.

The Code also says that moustaches could not be droopy and long side-burns are not permitted.
The airline also argued that Victor's moustache was a health risk, especially since he frequently handled food.

Since June 2002, Victor has been doing a desk job at Calcutta airport and deals with passenger complaints.
Victor claimed he wore his long moustache in keeping with family tradition and his spiritual faith. He said he regularly trimmed it.

The moustache, Victor said, was “very much in keeping with the aviation tradition and drew attention to the Maharaja logo of Air India wherein a similar moustache was in view”.

Never mind if the mercury scaled 30 degrees Celsius and it felt like summer on Thursday. Calcutta Tramways Company insists it's still winter. Pleas from perspiring passengers to switch on fans in the first class compartment fell on deaf ears with conductors resolute that winter cannot be over till March.

"There is a notification against using fans during winter," said a conductor on a tram plying on route 25. When passengers pointed out it felt like mid-summer, he retorted: "It does not matter how hot you feel. Fans have always remained switched off between November 15 and February 28/29. It will continue to be that way."

Other conductors in trams across the city offered the same reason. "There's an order against switching on fans," was the stock reply. Read more..............In Kolkata trams, it's winter till March

Cow urine seen as disease cure including cancer in India

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
India's experts in the Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine in South Asia, say cow urine contains properties to cure many diseases, including cancer.

In the northern state of Uttarakhand, officials have begun a program to buy about 1,300 gallons of cow urine every day to be used by Ayurvedic experts, reports Britain's Daily Telegraph.

The product will be collected from a network of 1,900 specially created milk cooperatives.

There are also plans to add 26 species of mountain cows to the program as yield from these animals reportedly has a "richer" herbal residue content compared to the one provided by those in the plains.

Ayurvedic chemist Rakesh Bhaguna told the newspaper cow urine has the same potential Western system medicines to fight diseases.

The state also has plans for a Cow Science and Technology Institute to conduct research in the medicinal values of cow urine and cow dung.

Ayurvedic products already are being marketed as a treatment and are used in face creams, shampoos and memory pills in a country where the cow is highly sacred for the Hindus.

Some modern doctors warn more research is needed on cow urine before it can be used as a curative medicine.

No shuttlecocks! India cancel National Camp

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
India have scrapped a training camp for this month's Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers because of a lack of shuttlecocks, as per the badminton officials.

The federation sent home over 30 players due to start training on Thursday, blaming the state-run Sports Authority of India (SAI) for not supplying the stock or allowing them to import.

The qualifiers are due to be staged in Vietnamese capital Ho Chi Minh from February 19-24. India, who qualified for the Thomas Cup finals last time, are in Group C with Japan and Pakistan.

"It is a very lackadaisical attitude," Badminton Association of India (BAI) president V.K.Verma told Reuters on Thursday. "They're supposed to provide shuttles, but are doing the game a great disfavour.

"We can't have our 30 best shuttlers, juniors and seniors, twiddling their thumbs with only five tournaments left to qualify for the Olympics."

Verma said the state agency had not even done the initial paperwork on a request forwarded six weeks ago.

The SAI chief Ratan Watal told the Times of India that supplies would be made soon and that bird flu in China were hindering imports.

Chewing gum may bring Harbhajan, Symonds together

Indian Cricketer "Harbhajan Singh" and Australian Cricketer "Andrew Symonds" may patch up soon - thanks to an Indian chewing gum manufacturer's offer to make a television advertisement in which the two warring players are supposed to say Gum Mein Hai Dum (This gum has power).

"An Indian chewing gum manufacturer could bring a quirky end to cricket's great racial spat by doing what the game's top officials couldn't ... It is understood initial feelers have already been sent out to the warring cricketers and they will examine the proposal in the coming weeks," Australia’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.

"The extraordinary proposal could cool tensions between Harbhajan and Symonds who have been at each others' throats since the combustible Sydney Test where Harbhajan allegedly called the Australian a monkey," it said.

Harbhajan, in a second hearing by a New Zealand High Court Judge, was let off with a 50 percent fine, instead of the three-Test suspension imposed by match referee Mike Proctor, after the charge could not be proved.

"Symonds has since told how his blood boiled when he had his integrity questioned after Harbhajan escaped with a fine for obscene language after a controversial appeal hearing in Adelaide," it wrote.

America in India.......................Passengers need no longer face the rigours of a transcontinental flight or suffer a jetlag; all they have to do is board a bus in Jodhpur for Falodi and ask the conductor for a ticket to America.

A couple of hours later, say 140 km off Jodhpur in Rajasthan state of india, if you are in doubt whether you've reached your destination, just lean out of the window and ask, "Is this America?" A prompt reply will follow: "Of course! You are new here or what?"

India's own America is just a few kilometres from Falodi and Kheechan, famous for the migratory demoiselles crane. Its actual name happens to be Lordiyan, but, over the years, it has acquired the tag "America" - and each villager seems to have his own reason for calling it so.

A soothsayer's prediction led a father in a Bihar village to marry off his two daughters to a man at a village temple.

The groom, Sailendra Kumar alias Pintu, married two sisters - Aarti Kumari and Puja Kumari - at a Shiva temple in Phulwarisharif near Patna.

Sailendra, in his early 30s, walked around the holy fire seven times with both his brides simultaneously as priests chanted from the scriptures. He also applied vermilion on their foreheads, a Hindu mark of marriage.

The groom then signed an official document of the temple, declaring that he married the two sisters and would take care of them. Read more............................Two sisters married off to one man in Bihar
