Darjeeling: A 27-year-old with multiple identities who managed to marry almost one girl a month for five years and sell them to brothels in Pune and Mumbai has been arrested by Darjeeling police.

The arrest of Bikky Biswakarma alias Bishal Chhetri alias Prakash Rai from his Kalchini residence in Jalpaiguri district yesterday has helped police trace at least nine girls so far. The police believe they will be able to find the whereabouts of another “seven to eight” girls.

New Delhi - Police in India's central state of Chhattisgarh have arrested seven people for allegedly sacrificing two children to gain 'supernatural powers,' officials said Thursday.

Witch-doctor Ishwari Yadav, his wife Kiranbai and five of their disciples were arrested after police found the bodies of a 2-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl at their home in Durg district Wednesday.

'The boy was killed on Tuesday and the girl was murdered some six months ago,' district police chief Amit Kumar said in a telephone interview. '(The suspects) were arrested for holding human sacrifices and have confessed their crimes.'

'During questioning the couple admitted that they had offered the sacrifices for appeasing the Hindu goddess Kali and attaining occult powers and wealth,' Kumar said. Read More................Child sacrifice cases stun India

Muzaffarnagar/New Delhi In a potentially controversial decree, Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has said that donation of blood and body parts was against the tenets of Islam, but observed that giving blood to save the life of a near and dear one was acceptable.

A teenaged girl, handed over to a money lender by her father who failed to repay a loan of Rs.15,000, was rescued by police from Ghaziabad Sunday, an official said.

Sub-divisional magistrate Pushpa Devrar said: 'Police have informed me that the girl has been rescued today (Sunday) evening. Three people, including a doctor in a government hospital, were arrested in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh for selling unclaimed corpses to private medical colleges, police said Thursday.

Post independence, India lost a staggering $462 billion in illicit financial flows due to tax evasion, crime and corruption, a research and advocacy group said in a report today.

The report, The Drivers and Dynamics of Illicit Financial Flows from India: 1948-2008', released by Washington-based Global Financial Integrity (GFI) found that the faster rates of economic growth since economic reform started in 1991 led to a deterioration of income distribution which led to more illicit flows from the country. LUCKNOW: UP is a classic case of corruption where even dead are being given old-age pension. This way, a sum of Rs 4.21 crore, was given away as pension and transferred to 18,461 accounts of the dead persons between 2007-09.

"What is disturbing is that no steps have so far been taken to seek refund of this amount for the past three years even after detecting the lapses on part of the social welfare department," the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India said in its latest report. Shimla – A day after the festival of lights, a unique stone pelting fair was organised Saturday as part of an annual ritual in the former princely state of Dhami in Himachal Pradesh.

In local parlance it is known as ‘pattharon ka mela’ (fair of stones). During the fair, male adults gathered in a ground and pelted each other with small stones in Dhami village, some 40 km from Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla.

‘More than 500 people gathered in the village this (Saturday) noon for the ritual. People who got injured and bled, smeared the forehead of Goddess Kali (a deity in a temple) with their blood,’ fair organiser Jagdeep Singh told IANS.
