Punjab politicians had the voters literally on a drug high. Not only liquor, the candidates in fray ensured that people get the drug of their choice. The drug menu on table during a fortnight long elections had a wide range -- from heroin, poppy seeds, drug power, intoxicating tablets to syrup.

How easily and widely the drugs and intoxicants were available during the state elections could be gauged from the election commission's seizure of drugs worth Rs 40 crore. Nagpur: Trusting god to ensure party ticket for the coming civic polls in Maharashtra, many Congress hopefuls slipped their application forms in the donation boxes of famous temples here.

“The trend came to light when I went to the Ganesh Tekri temple here to offer prayers for my newly-born grandson,” said city Congress president Jayprakash Gupta.

RAJKOT: As part of age-old practice of branding kids in the supposed belief that it will cure them of their ailments, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was branded twelve times on her abdomen in the remote Vagad village of Kutch district.

Kusum Koli, (name changed), who was suffering from cerebral malaria with septicemia, was branded 12 times on her abdomen by her parents on January 12 to cure their child of these diseases. Rats nibble on paralysed man as hospital staff sleep

Jodhpur, A 70-year-old paralysed man on ventilator in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a government hospital here was allegedly attacked by rats who nibbled on his ears, nose, lips and cheeks while hospital staff slept, hospital sources said.

The authorities at the government hospital have launched an investigation into the incident. MUMBAI: A social activist has found a ration card on the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) premises that was issued in the names of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul and daughter Priyanka, bearing their Delhi address. The family's annual income was shown as Rs 30,000.

The ration card was issued by the Thane rationing office. The ration card was issued despite Sonia Gandhi's address being mentioned as Delhi's 10 Janpath, indicating gross negligence on part of the rationing officials. Premchand Jha, an RTI activist of the Ulhasnagar Bachao Abhiyan, has written to the election commissioner about the issue, requesting him to disqualify ration cards as identity proof for casting votes during polls as anyone can make such fake ration cards.
